About this category
The Young Chef of the Year Award celebrates a talented young chef early in their career whose skill and passion mark them out for the future.
It rewards hard work, learning and cooking that already impresses guests and head chefs alike.
Eligibility
Open to chefs aged 30 or under, including commis, apprentice and junior chefs, based in or serving the region. Self-nominations and nominations made by others are both welcome.
Judging criteria
- Entries are judged on cooking skill and progress
- Attitude and commitment
- Creativity
- Feedback from head chefs and colleagues
Qualitative criteria
- What they set out to achieve, and why it mattered
- How they work with others
- What guests and colleagues say about them
Metrics
- Results delivered this year
- Guests or people helped
- Recognition already received
Additional criteria
- Include examples of the work
- The results in figures where possible and a word from a guest
- Colleague or manager
